These are the principles our interior lighting design services follow in the main spaces of a home.
Layer soft ambient light from the ceiling or a cove with accent light on art, shelves and feature walls, then add task light beside reading spots. Dimming lets the room move easily from day to evening.
A pendant or a focused light above the table, with gentle light around it, keeps people and food looking natural. Warm white light suits most dining areas.
Use soft indirect light, bedside reading lights and low level night lights. Bright downlights directly above the bed are best avoided.
Bright, even task light over the counters and light under the wall cabinets mean you never work in your own shadow.
Light at face level on both sides of the mirror removes shadows far better than one light overhead.
